Professional - Laura West, Coder Elementary School

Laura West is an outstanding teacher, teammate, and leader. She has a way of making everyone around her feel supported, valued, and encouraged. In the classroom, she is dedicated, creative, and passionate about helping every student succeed. She leads by example, showing patience, professionalism, and a deep love for learning. Her ability to collaborate and inspire others sets her apart—she not only brings fresh ideas to the table but also listens and uplifts the voices of those around her.

As a mom who is an immigrant and still learning a lot about how things work here, she has been such a wonderful support for me. She’s not only an amazing teacher for my son, but also such a kind and patient person who has helped me understand so many things. Her kindness and guidance mean more to me than I can put into words. I am truly grateful for everything she does.

Laura is not only an excellent teacher, but she is also a fantastic team lead. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and works hard to support each member of her team, even if their needs are different.

Paraprofessional - Victoria Kubeka, Aledo High School

Victoria is always willing to help and jump in where needed, she is a great example of a team player. She is always asking where she can help and how she can assist others.

Ms. Kubecka graciously helped us in a very time-sensitive situation as we realized, on the day of the appointment, that our daughter needed a VOE form. The typical turn around for this request is 24-48 hours. Her kindness and willingness to help on such short notice saved the day. She turned what could've been a chaotic, disappointing day into a success, and for that we are grateful.

Throughout the fall semester, she went above and beyond her role by engaging in multiple meaningful conversations with high school students, becoming a trusted and “safe” adult with whom students felt comfortable sharing their challenges, struggles, and setbacks related to school. She consistently demonstrated professionalism and initiative through strong communication and collaboration with the county, as well as by supporting assistant principals with targeted attendance emails for students who had fallen below expectations.

photo of Brittany Blackett

Auxiliary - Brittany Blackett, Lynn McKinney Elementary

Brittany Blackett has some students at LME that are non-verbal. She took it upon herself to take over 30 food pics to make a picture notebook of all menu items/choices for these kids - so they can more easily decide what they want to eat from the cafeteria. Since the district limits color copies, she printed the notebooks at Kinkos at her own expense on her own time. Brittany did all this on her own, just because she wants to help her kids. I wasn't aware of the project until she turned it in to me for approval before distribution.
